From the Nurse's Desk

Welcome to Frederick Douglass Elementary, School Nurse Page.  For those of you who do not know me yet, I am Mrs. Nichols, your student’s school nurse.  I have had the pleasure to be here at Frederick Douglass for 28 years and am looking forward to this 29th year.  Please feel free to contact me anytime during the school day at 629-9213, ext. 5575 if you have a concern or need my assistance with maintaining the health of your child.   Just a few reminders for the start of the school year –  If your child is missing any of the required state health information and you have received a letter from me, please contact me or send in that required health information to prevent your child from being excluded from school.  If your child is sick at home, vomiting or running a fever greater than 100 degrees, please keep them home until such time as they have no fever for 24 hrs.  This does help with the health of other students at school.  The same rule applies if I send your child home sick from school with a fever – they should be fever-free x 24 hrs. before returning.   If your child needs to take medication at school on a regular basis (scheduled medication) or needs to have medication here for use if needed (asthma medications, Epi pens for allergies), please be sure and send those medications in the original containers and if prescribed by a physician, they need to come in the labeled container showing the prescribed dose and physicians name.  I am here to help your student have a healthy, successful school year.  I will assist you and your child in any way I can to make that happen.  I look forward to meeting those of you who are new to our Frederick Douglass family as well as seeing and talking with those of you that I already know.
